Chester is a city in England on the River Dee, near the border with Wales, where there are 90 925 inhabitants. Originally, Chester was a garrison town, a Roman legionary fortress. Until the 5th century, Chester was the headquarters of a Roman legion of the province of Brittany. Thereafter the fortress was abandoned and the King of Mercia, Ethelred allowed the construction of the Royal Church of St John's. After that, there were some invasions from Vikings and Irish.
We arrived by train on the morning and I was immediately surprised by medieval buildings. The black-and-white buildings in the city center are Victorian restorations.
The city is composed of a large main street, where you can find many shopping arcades on each side of the street.
But there are also other stores in smaller streets, where you can make greats discoveries, like this shop specialized in cheeses from England and Wales.
It is very pleasant to walk the streets of Chester where reigns a wonderful melody. In fact, in every corner of street, you can see musicians playing for the pleasure of passersby.
You can go to Chester from Wrexham by train in 20 minutes for only 3£55 (go/back).
